Room 4, Invercargill Middle School, Year 4-6
We have been exploring the purpose of instructional writing. We had also been exploring photography with dominant images, framing, perspective and appropriate backgrounds. We combined this with a need in our classroom- many children cannot tie their own shoelaces. We used our instructions to create our e-books . Our aim was to make them accessible to all students, so we needed words, with our voices recorded and clear images.
We got together in groups and planned our eBook. Each person had to have at least one page with his or her writing and voice. We used a storyboard to plan our text and pictures. We took our photos of each step, focusing on the perspective and framing We decided to keep feet, legs and hands out of the image, as we wanted the dominant image to be clear. We needed a plain background and to take the photo looking down just like in real life. Then we created our e-book, making decisions as team about colour, font, and layout to ensure it was consistent.
