Timu and Leeym, Halfmoon Bay School, Year 7&8

In term one Stewart Island residents and invited guests celebrated 90 years since the Norwegian whaling factory ship Sir James CLark Ross entered Paterson Inlet, Stewart Island. The whalers ended up setting up a repair and maintenance base at Prices Inlet, Stewart Island and as they say the rest is history. After researching extensively, interviewing experts and visiting Whalers Base the students presented their work in a variety of ways for the Norsk Feiring exhibition.

Timu and Leeym used the iPad app Life Cards newspaper template to publish their work. They experimented with the app's different paper FX to get the right look for their 1920's-30's newspaper. Photographs were supplied by Rakiura Museum and a private Stewart Island collection. They used images from the internet for advertisements - it was tricky for them to find 'old' style pictures in keeping with the period of their newspaper. They tried to use the language of the time (more formal than nowadays) as well as vocabulary specific to advertising. They used exemplars from Papers Past Website.
