Then and Now

Our whole school inquiry was a social sciences focus on change in New Zealand over time. A group of new entrants from Room 4 like to share their learning via our class blog so we often come up with creative ways to do this using different apps from the iPad. We hadn't used Book Creator before so I introduced this app to the children and we looked at tutorials of how to get the best out of Book Creator. We read a book called The way it was (MOE Ready to Read) and decided to make our own digital book. This means we can get our learning out to many more people than just within our four walls. 

Children bought something to school from the 'olden days' and researched how it used to be used. They shared their findings orally with the class - took photos of them and wrote about them in their story writing books. Then they found images on the internet or took photos of what it is like now and repeated this process. We used dragon dictation to record our voices (on our new iRig mic!) to translate the writing to text (some teacher editing here). Then pasted it all into Book Creator before uploading it as a video on vimeo and youtube. We have posted it on our blog for all to enjoy. Many of us came down with the chicken pox so were unable to add their voice to their work but we still have their journey so far.
