Southland, Home of the Cheese Roll

Room 9, Winton School, Year 7&8. Teacher: Julie Mynes.
During Current Events and persuasive language, Campbell live prompted a huge debate around where the cheese roll originated from. This spurred us into creating a fun documentary using 'My Kitchen Rules' as a storyboard placeholder for the discussion.
We learnt how to use existing characters from tv shows to fit into a current event script. Record using green screen and export to an imovie timeline. We also tested and used the best settings from around the school to video a few scenes. Learning how to trim footage precisely was tricky and we would look to improve on audio recording as it was difficult to adjust all audio clearly enough within the imovie tools. We lost some footage and we realised how important re-viewing our timeline was so that the story flowed and make sense. Putting footage in the correct order was also important. At the start of term 2 we studied persuasive language, also in June we used Campbell Live and the Cheese Roll debate to spur on persuasive language skills. We were asked to use any media to persuade an audience on a topic, which is why we used this current event and also the very popular 'My Kitchen Rules' program as a template to develop our project. We gave each member of our team a role to play and tried to match up a persons character with the character judges in My Kitchen Rules. We recorded in many areas around the school using Do Ink Green Screen, iPad video camera and iMovies on the classroom MacBooks.
