Impressionism

Kakapo, Woodlands Full Primary School, Year 7&8

In Term 1 Woodlands School took part in a unit on famous artists. Each class looked at one artist’s techniques, life and contributions to the development of different styles of painting. My favourite artist who has inspired me over the years is Claude Monet and after travelling to Paris years earlier, I have many resources and experiences about Monet to share with my class.

The children were quick to pick up the style of Impressionism and produced some outstanding artworks. Along the way I got the children to record their learning and they have used this successfully in a documentary.
We had a great time this year learning about the famous artist Claude Monet. It was really different painting in small brush strokes and Mrs Wilcox gave us a cotton bud so that we couldn't do big brush strokes. It is amazing how our paintings come to life when you stand back from them.

When we created our documentary, it was hard to fit the green screen to each video clip. We enjoyed using time lapse on the ipad to capture Cilla painting. By recording our learning in a movie, we can share our new knowledge with others.
