Captain Cook's Voyage

Room 7, Windsor North School, Year 4-6. Teacher: Malcolm Goodsir.

We learnt about early migration to New Zealand. Who the people were that came, when they arrived and what happened. Our learning involved reading activities and research projects on topics like Abel Tasman, Captain James Cook, Maori Migration and the 1860’s Gold Rush. We also celebrated everything we learnt through a School Production. The production was about early New Zealand history. Our classroom act in fact was about Early Migration to New Zealand. Our documentary was based on Captain James Cook’s arrival to New Zealand and death in Hawaii. He left from the United Kingdom to explore, discover New Zealand and he succeeded.

We researched topics and decided that Captain James Cook was the best option. Next we researched personal information and found a lot about his journey to New Zealand and death in Hawaii. So we decided that his adventure was perfect for our documentary. We put together our storyboard and got our costumes and props sorted.
Then we had a few rehearsals without the camera and when we decided we were ready we started filming to see what it looked like.
We finally had our filming and it was ready to edit e.g. sound effects, credits.
