Back in the Day

Room 1, Windsor North School, Year 1-3. Teacher: Polly Sander.

As part of term 3's inquiry unit. the children studied indoor and outdoor play in the olden days. One of the students brought in an old sepia photo which got the children wondering how they could produce similar pictures. We found the sepia camera app on the I pad and learned how to take the photos. The children had to learn how to play all the games in class and then take all their own photos of each other playing with the various games and toys, both inside and outside the classroom.

The children had very limited experience of photography and the objects they brought in were a great starting point to photograph and display in class. The project took a few weeks to complete and select the best images. The children had to consider carefully distance, light, position of objects and background in their work. They had to work co-operatively in pairs and small groups.
The Teacher put it all together at the end to make an I movie.
