Kakapo, Woodlands Full primary School, Year 4-6
During Term 3 Kakapo Room experimented with persuasive writing. The main learning intentions were to:
Work cooperatively in groups to brainstorm ideas and create a commercial.
Gain knowledge of the different strategies that are used in effective persuasive writing.
Use a graphic organizer to help them begin organizing their ideas into written form.
Analyze the work of others to see if it contains effective persuasive techniques.
Use a variety of ICT skills and effects to create their commercial.
The children had to design and create an original product that was a combination of two already existing products ie jeans and leggings = jeggings. After coming up with their product each group planned their script, shots and movie effects on a storyboard. There were many valuable skills learnt in creating their commercials and the children were extremely proud of their results. Our group came up with the Phone Disguise because we all like mobile phones but aren't allowed to have them in the classroom. To make the Phone Disguise we found an old, thick book and cut a whole in it with a craft knife.
To make our commercial we used imovie and made a diagram of our product using Microsoft word. the hardest part of making our product was doing the filming as we had to take many shots. we enjoyed learning new skills on the imovie like adding special effects.
