This term the children have been studying an investigations
assignment. They were asked to direct a documentary on something they were passionate about. The results were to showcase their skills learned in imovie, and camera skills. After each group had agreed on a topic they went away and started recording.
After the films had been rolled, and the editing had been done, we were thoroughly impressed with the results. But you can see for yourself.

Room 8, Winton School. Year 1. Teacher: Lynne Bell.
This documentary was created as an assembly presentation by a year one class at Winton School. Each holiday the junior students at Winton School complete a Reading Challenge to read a certain number of books over the holiday break. If they complete the challenge they are able to take part in a special event during the first week of term. To celebrate their success in the last Holiday Reading Challenge Room 8 held a Teddy Bears' Picnic on the 16th October 2013.The children wanted to show the rest of the school what they did so got a parent to film them on their walk then some students wrote and filmed a short narration to introduce the film clip. All the filming was done using iPads. Three year one students aged 5 and 6 wrote the script, performed it and also filmed it with minimal adult support. The resulting video will be shared on Room 8's classroom blog for families to enjoy as well.

The SMARTies, Room 11, Winton School. Year 8. Teacher: Julie Mynes.
At the start of the year we studied Multiple Intelligences to find out what type of learners we are. We realised that we were a variety of intelligences, but quite strong in one or two areas, such as Logical 'mathematical' or musical etc. It was really interesting as we found out that we are all different and that different has positive qualities such as when working together in a group, we can all contribute a variety of skills that together make us stronger. Differences should be celebrated.

We created our short movie using iMovies and voice overs which we had never explored before. Taking photographs was quite difficult too as sometimes the weather conditions were not suitable. We discovered that having a background that would be editable, i.e. for green screening, would have made a better project as we could have change the background to suit our SMARTs. This would be our next step thinking and learning.

Billy, Halfmoon Bay School. Year 6. Teacher: Kath Johnson.
At the beginning of the year we created Day in History movies. These involved researching to find out events that had happened on our birthdays. Once we had the events we had to write the script for each event then find high quality pictures or make screen recordings from the Internet to go with each event. Once we had all the pictures/ video it was time to use the voice over function in iMovie to record the narration. Then it was a case of putting in titles and transitions and any extras we wanted.

Makarewa School. Year 5. Teacher: Kylie Murcott.
The task was to create an advertisement or documentary about what makes Makarewa School such a great school. In reading the group looked at persuasive language and documentaries.
For writing they looked at writing scripts, creating a storyboard and also how to add different media into IPhoto.
The group filmed their documentary on an IPad and then put the clips in IMovie to put merge all the parts together and add titles, sounds and music.

7NA, Southland Girls High School. Year 7. Teacher: Sharee Ineson.
During term two and three this year Mrs Ineson was one of our relievers along with Mrs Rutledge.Within our learning package work we looked at ways we could use the I pads to enhance ways we could create and share our learning through the taking action stage of our inquiry based learning packages. Mrs Ineson was also gathering our student voice on which i pad applications engaged and motivated us the most when we worked together on collaborative learning challenges as part of her teacher inquiry. You will see how we started using QR Codes as a way to engage our audience when we presented our Envirowatch Rice Show, use of puppet pals when were shared ballet stories during our Musical Showcase package with a pre school dance class to build their knowledge of stories they might dance to and animation when we looked at different ways to present biographies during our innovation package. You will also see a small snippet where we used Tellagami to work with our visiting students from Kumagaya . Although it is not shown in the documentary we also used book creator to publish recipes as part of our well being package and then just for fun made video star clips. Our documentary represents a collation of learning across the two terms collected by us as we went and narrated by Ruchika.

The students were creating an entry for the Mix and Mash competition with the theme of "safer journeys". Due to the law change they decided to create a documentary about Booster seats. They used real film as well as some stop motion animation to create their movie. By using students from the school the message about the law change was delivered quite effectively.

Sophie Ineson, Room 13, St Theresa's School. Year 0 to 3. Teacher: Robyn Wilson.
The Junior syndicate at St Theresa's headed for a visit to Queens Park as part of their new inquiry unit .The class was looking at how to grow successful pot plants and which pot would be best.
Mrs Wilson , Room 13 and Mrs Ineson collected footage of the trip to use to make an I Movie for the class to continue the learning back in class.
Sophie helped her mum make a movie before then making her own movie. Sophie scripted her text , took photos, constructed her voice overs, directed video footage of her clips at Queens Park the afternoon after her trip and selected the order to drop her footage into the i movie storyboard. Sophie added titles and used the Tellagami App to add further information that she wanted to share. She was also very keen to use her reading words when deciding on titles and to use her new fairy and dinosaur app.
