Mark, Room 11, Winton School. Year 8. Teacher: Julie Mynes. In Term 2, parents in our community expressed a concern about scooter and cycle safety, particularly wearing helmets around our streets. Kid Safe New Zealand also sent units out to schools to reinforce road safety. We conducted a survey on 'survey monkey' for our community to complete. In maths we studied data online for accidents in school age children. We took action by producing instructional videos and posters to get a message of safety out to our community.
Ipads were used, with camera, comic life and imovies applications. My poster was created in Comic Life. Some of the images are of myself. Some are from the creative commons site for safe re-use. My poster is displayed around our community and in our bike shed at school. I have also sent a copy to the local businesses that sell bikes and helmets to promote safety. Room 2, Lochiel School. I took this photo because I liked the view of the garden that I got through the hole in the glass. I could see that the colours in the hole where the glass was broken were brighter than the ones looking through the actual glass. I used a medium shot and made sure the sun wasn't shining into my lens. Room 5, Winton School. Year 2. Throughout the year students have taken many photos to illustrate stories, projects and of the work we have been doing in class to go on our blog. They also take photos as evidence of work they have completed independently. We have had many discussions around how to take a good photo and students have learnt about camera angles, (giraffe, person, mouse), how to focus a camera before taking a photo, fitting a subject into the shot and lighting. This photo shows the student learning about angles and making the subject tell a story.
