Our school production provided us with an ideal opportunity to look at pirates and how they lived. We developed a keen interest in what pirates were all about, what they ate, how they lived on ships and how they talked. We are also learning to become storytellers and created this story using our own ideas and words. We are exploring the ipad app - Book Creator as another way of publishing our stories. We were learning in our inquiry about who and how people lived in the bible times. We decided to use ibook author because some of us wanted to learn how to use the programme. It took a lot of research to find appropriate videos to support the text. We had to read the bible and re-write the stories into our own words. It took a very long time, but we persevered. we had to upload the videos from youtube, then save them onto the desktop and then we were able to drag into the ibook. Room 1, Makarewa School. Year 6. This ebook was created as a learning resource for other children. The creators of this book decided to use their knowledge of the numbers in maori to produce a book for the Junior Village - New entrants to Yr 2. The Yr 6 students created learning resources for other students their age or younger. They were learning to use different ways to share their work with others and it made it more interesting and engaging for them. They had to learn to use the i-pad keyboard and find a variety of pens, colours and sizes to illustrate their work.

While we were in Deep Cove, we took lots of photos and videos so we could share our experience with the rest of the school. When we got back to school, we decided to make an iBook, using 'iBooks Author' on the computer, so we could give people information about Deep Cove. We had to do a bit a research and use what we had learned on camp to find information for our iBook. We also had to go through all of the photos and videos that we had taken on camp to decide what we would use in our iBook. We made our iBook interesting by adding in widgets, like quizzes and videos. In term 2 of this year, we had our camp at Deep Cove. We learned so much about Deep Cove and the areas surrounding it, such as Manapouri and the Manapouri Power Station. When we got back to school, we wrote recounts about our time at Deep Cove. We decided to create ours using iBooks author, so we could share with the rest of the school what we had seen, done and learned about. We had to draft our recount in our writing books, then sift through the photos that we took at Deep Cove to find the ones we would use in our iBook. We also added widget, such as a quiz, to make our book more interesting. Woodlands Full Primary School. Year 5-7. Teacher: Heidi Wilcox. This term we attended a Media Mash workshop on creating an ebook using Book Creator. The children learnt many new skills which they enjoyed sharing with their classmates.
Part of our inquiry in term 2 was 'Our People, Our Land' and the whole school visited Te Rau Aroha Marae in Bluff. It was a wonderful experience and the children captured many great photos explaining their learning during the visit. Earlier this year I went back to my home country, The Philippines, for a few weeks. When I came back, I made an information booklet about the Philippines so that my classmates would have a better understanding of where I come from. Before I created my iBook, I had to research information about the Philippines and combine it with what I already knew. Then I organised my information into chapters for the iBook. I dragged in pictures and movies to make my book more interesting. I also changed the font and arranged the layout of each chapter. |
